The Art of Minimalism: Demystifying the Capsule Wardrobe

American publications pre 1940 used the term capsule to denote a small collection of garments that were designed to be worn together and interchangeable. The term was later reinvented in the UK in the 70s by Susie Faux the owner of the London boutique ‘Wardrobe’. Faux believed ‘Capsule’ only needed a few essential and timeless pieces like pants and skirts that can be interchanged seasonally.

A capsule wardrobe is a collection of essential pieces of clothing that can be used to create multiple outfits. The idea is to have enough pieces in your wardrobe that you can mix and match to create a variety of looks without having an overwhelming amount of clothing. The focus is on quality over quantity, so you can have fewer pieces that you love and that last longer.

The benefit of having a capsule wardrobe is that it simplifies your daily decision making process and helps you save time, energy, and money. You won't have to worry about sorting through a large closet of clothes every morning trying to decide what to wear. With a capsule wardrobe, you already have a few go-to options that you can quickly put together into an outfit that you love. Not only that, but it allows you to invest in quality pieces that will last longer, saving you money in the long run.

A capsule wardrobe is also great for the environment. Because you’re buying less, you’re reducing the amount of waste from clothes that you no longer want or need. Plus, when you invest in quality pieces, you’re helping to reduce the amount of clothes that end up in landfills.

Overall, a capsule wardrobe is a great way to save time, energy, and money while also helping the environment. It's a win-win situation!
